The largest City in Guangdong Province is the Capital City Guangzhou, formerly also known as Canton. Other major population centres are Meixian, Shantou, Shaoguan, Shenzhen, Zhangjiang and Zhu Hai.
Hong Kong and Macau have their own administrations and are not part of Guangdong Province.
The main river in Guangdong Province is the Pearl River. Xi jiang, Han and Dong Rivers. Guangdong Province further counts a modest number of manmade reservoirs, the largest of which is the Xifengyang Reservoir (Shuikou).
Guangdong is a large Province that boasts many charming sceneries. There are too many to choose from. Xinghu Lake in Zhaoqing, and Mt. Danxia in Renhua are the national major famous scenic areas. Mt. Dinghu in Zhaoqing, Yuexiu Hill, Qinghui Garden in Shunde, Keyuan Garden in Dongguan, Liangyuan Garden in Foshan, the newly built miniature landscape "Splendid China" and "China Folk Culture Villages" in Shenzhen,etc,are all attractive places. Dr.Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, the former residences of the celebrities in modern times, important sites and cemeteries are also well-known tourist spots.
Guangdong is the hometown of tropical and subtropical fruits and teas, such as banana Dongguan, orange in Chaozhou,lychee in Zengcheng and black tea in Yingde,etc.The handicraft articles, for example, embroidery, drawnwork, artistic porcelain, ivory carving, etc, are famous in China.
